ROBIN GIBB – A Bee Gee Homecoming Concert
THE BEE GEES - As part of one of
the world’s most prolific
singing/songwriting pop groups of all time Robin with his twin
brother Maurice and older brother Barry have commanded phenomenal
success during their 40 years of chart topping success. They have
sold over a staggering 180 million albums worldwide.
This MANX BORN multiple Grammy Award-winning groups’ catalogue
is vast, with exceptional success as a harmonic "soft rock" act
in the late 1960s and early 1970s, and as the foremost stars of
the disco music era in the late 1970s. It was the age of rock,
where Robin, with his clear vibrato lead became the hallmark of
the music and the era!
Most notable of all is Robin’s status as the SOLO singer
in ELLAN VANNIN (the unofficial national anthem of the Isle of
Man). This extremely emotive and passionate song helps convey the
majesty and magic that defines the Isle of Man, and thanks to "An
audience with the Bee Gees" that song has been seen and heard on
all five continents by an estimated audience of over
180 million.
This World Musical
Mega Superstar has now returned home! Tonight, in an emotionally
charged arena, Robin dedicates his homecoming concert to the success
he has enjoyed as a BEE GEE. With his 11 piece band he
will be singing all the hits of the Bee Gees in a celebration
of this most famous of Manx homecomings.
The Peel Bay Festival is truly honored to be hosting the homecoming
concert of Robin Gibb. Welcome home Robin!

CHRIS NORMAN & BAND – Former lead singer
of Smokie
Does ‘Living
Next Door to Alice’ ring any bells?
Yes….Well Chris has been living
in the Isle of Man for the last 21 years (Alice has moved to Peel) and both absolutely
love it. Yet another success story for
the Island.
In 2004
Chris played to an audience
of 50,000 in Vienna. His success
in Germany and Europe is truly astounding and tonight Chris and
his 6 piece band bring to the Peel Bay Festival a strong memorable
mix of well known Smokie tracks and his own very successful solo
music.
Starting in 1975 Smokie had developed their own sound reflecting
their close, three part harmonies and Chris’s distinctive
lead vocal sound. They had a string of successes with songs such
as ‘If You Think You Know How To Love Me’, ‘Living
Next Door To Alice’, ‘I’ll Meet You at Midnight’, ‘Lay
Back In The Arms Of Someone’, ‘Too Much (And Not Enough)’ to
name just a few.
Chris completed a successful duet with Suzi
Quatro, ‘Stumblin’ In’ in
1978, which gave Chris his first taste of success outside
of the group. However by the early 1980s he decided
to spend more time writing and working in the studio.
Chris together with Pete Spencer, now concentrated
on songs for other artists including hits for Kevin
Keegan and the England football team. He also worked
with Agnetha Fältskog from ABBA, on her solo album;
Donovan and The Heavy Metal Kids.
Chris’s solo career took off in 1986 with
the song, ‘Midnight Lady’, which was a hit
throughout Europe holding the number one spot in Germany
for six weeks. Written by Dieter Bohlen, it sold 900,000
copies in Germany alone. Further success followed over
the years and in 1994 Norman was honoured by CMT Europe
as their ‘International Video Star of the Year’.
Tonight
the Peel Bay Festival is indeed proud and honoured
to welcome Chris Norman and his Band so the people
on the Isle of Man can see the real success and fame
that lies within our midst.

A ‘bonnie’ night for
the Peel Bay Festival
The fourth night of the Peel Bay Festival, which already
has a very impressive line up with Robin Gibb and ex-Smokie
Chris Norman, can now boast the addition of the legendary
Bonnie Tyler as its special guest.
Having been in the business for 30 years, Bonnie is best
known for her hits –
“It’s a heartache” – which sold
over 6 million copies and “Total Eclipse of the
Heart” which went to number one in the USA selling
over 5 million copies. Her
album “Faster than the speed of night” achieved
platinum status and she was the
first woman to have an album go straight in at number 1 – earning
herself a
Guinness World Record.
And she is still making music. Last
month she released
her greatest hits album which included a new song titled “Under
one Sky”.
Jonathan Irving, promoter for the Peel Bay Festival said “I'm
very pleased that
we will have another living legend on stage and musically
Bonnie contrasts
extremely well with Robin Gibb singing
all the Bee Gees hits and Chris Norman
with his own hits and those of Smokie.”
Rochelle O’Toole, Brand Marketing Manager for Okells – the
sponsors for the
evening said “Okells is excited to be sponsoring
a night of genuine talent with
this mix of artists and we know it will prove to be a truly
entertaining evening.”

To
continue the Manx theme, the night will begin with a performance
of "….Like
The Wind" ….like the wind has been
commissioned by the Isle of Man Arts Council from the composer
Barry Russell to celebrate the Centenary of the TT in 2007.
It will be a grand celebratory piece of music featuring
two rock bands, massed brass and percussion groups. It
will last approximately 20 minutes and will reflect various
aspects of the TT: tension and build up before the race,
revving up, riding like the wind, wide open spaces, etc.
During the three months leading up to the 2007 TT Festival
Barry Russell with be working with two local rock bands,
brass musicians drawn from the Island Brass Bands and a
community group who will form the percussion section. The
two rock bands will have solo spots within the piece and
the large percussion group will play blue plastic tubs,
in the manner of Japanese Taiko drummers. |
