What
you told us about the Peel Bay Festival. Here's just
a selection of the comments you have sent us over
the last week...
"...a fantastic concert and definitely value
for money! Our only regret is that we didn't go
to any other of the concerts.
Thank you, thank you, thank you
for bringing this to the Island! What an initial
thought - what a fantastic dream - what a dream come
true for so many people, young and old! If you ever
do anything like this again - you can count on our
support.
We will have a season ticket thank you very much!

| "People are so quick to whinge,
and it's not often that people look to congratulate
a good job well done. I was at the Robin Gibb concert
last Saturday, and can not believe just how well the
organisation for the event was. Let's hope that
there's a repeat of the event next year." Rachel |
"I
would like to congratulate you and your team for
a fantastic event. [We] found
the organisation in Peel to
be a lot better than many other events of a similar
size." Colin

|
"From buying the tickets months ago to
the marshalling on the night, everything was so professional
that I couldn't believe I was in the IOM!!" Dee
 |
"Wow, Just a
huge big thank you to the organisers of Peel Bay

and Robin Gibb. What a cracker of a night. Well
done all involved, and we hope this festival, is
the 1st of many more to come." Simon
 |
The Who were spectactular and Madness
last night was bouncing! Even McFly were good and
they are well out of my age range. At last I have
made my mates in the UK jealous that we have seen
these groups here, half an hours ride away! Lynn
 |
I bought the tickets
as birthday presents for my nieces and it was their
first concert - what an amazing introduction to their
concert going days! The organisation was brilliant
and I would like to applaud you for all your efforts
... my nieces are still grinning - this is not something
that they will easily forget (or stop talking about!). Robyn
 |
"The atmosphere here was the
best, ...Really can't say thank you enough times
for enabling me to see The Stranglers and Madness
on the same bill." Gaz

|
"Thanks for
a fabulous gig last night - The Stranglers were
amazing and Madness were quite mad! In general
we are so quick to criticise but not to give credit
where it is due." Jan
 |
"Awesome as McFly would say, they rocked!!!
The kids loved them, and so did some of us mums, and
Ronan, what can i say, the whole audience were on their
feet dancing, waving arms and singing along, absolutely
amazing! Well done on another fantastic night" Shona
 |
"Well done on producing
such a spectacular venue and great line-up, it was
a fabulous night out. The organisation was superb,
all the staff were friendly, helpful and professional,
and it really made me proud to be Manx!" Cath
 |
"Just a big Thank You for bringing
McFly & Ronan over here, we had an absolute top
night, we danced, and sung our hearts out. An excellent
night. Thank You, Thank You, Thank You.
I'm sure from the response you have had you could
do this year after year!" Di & Julie
|
"Back Door Slam
were great - how nice to see some home grown talent
getting the opportunity to play in front of a 'proper'

Bee
Gee Brings a Smile to Nobles Children
Musical legend Robin Gibb has hit the right note on his homecoming
by pledging to donate the proceeds of his Peel Bay Festival performance to the
Children’s Ward at Nobles Hospital.

Bee Gee Robin, who will be performing on Saturday 2nd June, will donate his share
of the night’s net profits to the ward in a gesture which reaffirms his
strong links to the Island of his childhood.

The Bee Gees are one of the greatest selling acts of all time, enjoying international
acclaim and stardom throughout the 60s and 70s. Robin has since gone on to enjoy
considerable success as a solo artist and his show at the Festival is eagerly
anticipated.

Robin has always spoken openly of his love for the Isle of Man and his generous
gesture is sure to make Saturday night’s concert an even more emotionally
charged event for both he and his many fans. |
Party
for competition winners
The
Peel Bay Festival collectable coaster competition which
has been running in pubs Island wide since March – came
to an end last week – and
Steve Veasey was announced the lucky
winner of two VIP tickets to a night
of his choice.

The winning pub – who had the most
entrants over the past 3 months – was
The Highwayman Pub in Peel – and
they also picked up free tickets to any
night.

To celebrate the end of the competition and as a warm up
to the Festival
which begins on 30th May with The Who – The Peel
Bay Festival organisers
held a Smirnoff evening at the Highwayman on Friday night– where
free T-shirts
and Smirnoff ice were given out and competition winners
and Festival
sponsors were entertained.

This was also a final chance
for those involved in
the festival to relax before the mammoth task of staging
the biggest music
festival the Island has ever seen gets underway. |

Local bands will take to the stage at
The Peel Bay festival

The Peel Bay Festival organisers are not only bringing
over some of the
biggest names in the music industry to the Island– they
are also giving local
Manx bands an opportunity to perform throughout the week.

The road closures during the TT mean that people are being
encouraged to get
to the venue early to avoid heavy traffic – and as
an incentive those who come
early will be able to enjoy some of the best local music
the Island has to offer.

This will be a great opportunity for people to enjoy the
festival atmosphere,
look around the tent, read the programme and get something
to eat – all while
enjoying some great local music in preparation for the
concert in the evening.

Temple will be kicking off the festival
on 30th May, followed by Twisted
Angels. Other bands performing throughout the
week are;
On a Friday, Uber
Room and Hit the North to name
but a few. In total there will be twelve Manx
bands performing during the afternoons, on a special stage
located near to the
concessions stands.

Jonathan Irving, the festival organiser said, “The
Peel Bay Festival is a truly
Isle of Man based festival and as such we wanted to give
the local bands an
opportunity to be involved and perform in this totally
unique, infectious and
atmospheric environment. We are
starting at 1.30pm every day with all the
concessions operational from the time we open right through
until we close at
midnight. Therefore everyone coming can have 10 hours
every day of
memorable entertainment starting with the cream of Manx
music."

Harry Radford, lead singer for On
a Friday, who will
be playing on Friday, 1st
June said, “We are really excited about performing
on the same day as McFly
and are really happy that the festival organisers thought
of us.”

The manager for Uber Room echoed this
by saying “the
band are really
looking forward to playing in such a big arena and are
really pleased to have
been asked to perform."

Something
funny going on at the Peel Bay Festival! Organisers
of the Peel bay Festival have gone one step further
for their VIP guests by lining up two top class comedians
to play host in the VIP tent and entertain the guests
before, during and after the concerts.
Rob Heeney, who is originally
from Douglas and is the only Manx professional
comedian on the circuit, will host the first
three nights of the festival starting on
30th May. He has a reputation as one of the
top comics working the UK circuit and was
described by the Isle of Man Examiner as ‘The
Island’s number one export (apart from
kippers)!’ He has performed at a huge
number of clubs including The Comedy Store,
Jongleurs and The Glee – and he currently
writes for the Sony Award nominated Jamie
Theakston’s Breakfast Show.
From
2nd June to the end of the festival – well
known comedian Smug Roberts will
be taking over the role of host in the VIP
tent. Smug, who was born and bred in Manchester,
is one of the UK’s top stand-up comics,
alongside his local pals Johnny Vegas and
Peter Kay. He has stared in numerous TV shows
including Clocking Off, Cold Feet and Phoenix
nights but still performs live regularly
around the UK.
Jonathan Irving, organiser of the festival said, “We want all our VIP guests
to be given a glass of champagne upon arrival, and then to relax while being
entertained by some of Britain's top comedians who will remain their hosts throughout
the evening. We want everyone to have a truly memorable experience in this amazing
venue with fantastic music and some very funny entertainers”. are still available for the Peel Bay Festival. |

Tenth
weekly winners in coaster competition
The
tenth weekly winners of the Peel Bay Festival collectable
coaster competition were announced on Friday.
Alan Quayle won first prize and picked
up his mat in The Railway. Amanda Noble won the
second prize - a 24 bottle case of Smirnoff
ice and Roger Cave won a Smirnoff T-shirt.

This was the final week of the three month competition that had been going on
in pubs Island wide since March. 90,000 coasters in total have been circulated
around the Island and undoubtedly they will continue to be in use
for many months to come. |
Peel
Bay Festival supports 41 local charities
At the beginning of March, Isle of Man registered charities
were asked to send in
their applications to become the Peel Bay Festival’s
sponsored charity.
The number of requests was overwhelming and the festival
has decided that all
charities that applied will be included in the ‘pot’.
A total of 41 charities will be included in the ‘Peel
Bay Festival Charities’ and
the money raised at the event will be divided equally.
Jonathan Irving, promoter of the festival said, “The
Peel Bay Festival is a
community based event and we hope everyone on the Isle
of Man will come
along and support us and at the same time enjoy a truly
fantastic and totally
unique experience. By supporting us they will also be supporting
local charities -
so everyone benefits and has a memorable time in the process".
During the festival there will be barrels inside the marquee
next to all the
concessions with posters above listing all the charities – in
which people will be
encouraged to deposit their loose change.
Sharon Foster, secretary for the Lions Club International,
one of the charities
included, said “It is great that the Peel Bay Festival
is supporting local charities
and as a new branch of Lions Club International we are
especially grateful for
this potential boost to our funds”.
The festival organisers will start by donating £1,000
and will also give 50 pence
from the sale of each official Peel Bay Festival t-shirt – which
will be available
before and during the event.
For more information about the charities involved please
call 841234. |
Corncrake
Management Plan Agreed
Organisers of the Peel Bay Festival and The Department
of
Agriculture, Forest and Fisheries have continued to work
closely
together to work out a strategy to not only protect the
Corncrake
but also by way of land management to encourage breeding.
The
available space allocated for car parking during the festival
is over
70 acres and it has been relatively simple to move certain
designated car park areas to other parts of the site.
Jonathan Irving said “With the help of Dudley Butt
MLC, we
have put together a plan which will cause minimum disruption
to
the Corncrake and we are now well away from any possible
breeding sites. I would like to ask concert goers to respect
any
signage and fencing that we erect to give further protection
to the
Corncrake. I would like to thank DAFF for their assistance.
We
still have plenty of car parking available for all nights
which can
be booked on line or by phoning

A ‘bonnie’ night
for the Peel Bay Festival
The fourth night of the Peel Bay Festival which will
be headlined by Robin Gibb and supported by ex-Smokie
Chris Norman, will now host the legendary
Bonnie Tyler as its special guest.
Having been in the business for 30 years, Bonnie is best known for her hits –
“It’s a heartache” – which sold
over 6 million copies and “Total Eclipse of the Heart” which
went to number one in the USA selling over 5 million copies.
Her
album “Faster than the speed of night” achieved platinum status and
she was the first woman to have an album go straight in at number 1 – earning
herself a Guinness World Record.
And she is still making music. Last month she released
her greatest hits album which included a new song titled “Under one Sky”.
Jonathan Irving, promoter for the Peel Bay Festival said “I'm very pleased
that we will have another living legend on stage and musically Bonnie contrasts
extremely well with Robin Gibb singing
all the Bee Gees hits and Chris Norman with his own hits and those of Smokie.”
Rochelle O’Toole, Brand Marketing Manager for Okells – the sponsors
for the evening said “Okells is excited to be sponsoring a night of genuine
talent with this mix of artists and we know it will prove to be a truly entertaining
evening.” |

A
sweet end to the Festival
There
has been a huge amount of speculation and anticipation
surrounding the final night of the Peel Bay Festival,
but it can now be confirmed that The Sugababes
will be headlining the concert, supported by ‘King of the
Jungle’ - Matt Willis
Jonathan Irving, promoter for the Festival said “The fantastic local
response to the Ronan Keating and McFly evening proved there was great demand
for ‘family pop’ which is why we have gone for this kind of event
on the final night.”
The Sugababes are a female pop group phenomenon who were
voted ‘Best
World Group’. Formed in 1998 – they have released eighteen singles
and five albums and in 2006 were named the UK all-female act of the 21st century
from British Hit Singles and Albums. They have sold over five million albums
worldwide and recently released the 2007 Comic Relief single with Girls Aloud
which went to No. 1. They are also one of very few pop acts who have performed
at the Glastonbury Festival.
Matt Willis – A former member and founder of the boy band Busted and ‘King
of the Jungle’ in ITV’s ‘I’m a Celebrity, Ge Me Out
of Here!” – will also be performing on 5th June. He started his
solo career last year and has since had three top twenty hits. He is also tipped
for the top 10 with his new release ‘Crash’ which comes out later
this month.
With The Who on the first night and now the Sugababes
closing the festival – the
Peel Bay Festival line up has exceeded all expectations – and it is now
just a question of choosing which nights to attend.

Who would believe
it?
Back Door Slam to guest star with The Who
Having
signed a record deal, been to America on tour and with
their first album coming out in May – this
is set to be a monumental year for Back
Door Slam – and
to top it off they will be opening the first night of
the Peel Bay Festival as special guests of The Who.
Pete
Townshend was given some of the band’s music a couple of months ago and was really pleased for them
to appear on the same night.
Back Door
Slam is breaking their American Tour to play at the Festival – but
see it as a great opportunity for them. Davy Knowles,
lead singer of the band said “It
is an absolute honour to have been asked to play at the
Peel Bay Festival and especially to be supporting such
a prestigious band as The Who. We met Pete Townshend
in Austen last month and he really took the time to speak
to us – and he seemed to have real affection for
the Isle of Man”.
Jonathan Irving promoter for the
Peel Bay Festival said "This
is not only fantastic news for the Peel Bay Festival
but also for the Manx music scene. This will certainly
be a memorable night – and local fans will be able
to say ‘I was there.’”

March
NEW FESTIVAL LOCATION!
Due to the
logistics of putting up the huge tent and the need for
onsite parking and camping we have taken the positive decision
to move the actual venue a few hundred yards up the Ramsey
Road to a field adjacent to Ballagyr Lane.
Although a stunning
location the Daisy Field needs too much work doing on it
to make it fully useable and this work would also require
planning permission which could take many months to achieve.
However with over 100 acres the new site is an ideal location
for the Festival.
TICKETS ON THE WAY
We will start the printing
of all the paid Festival tickets from the end of March.
We do have many thousands of tickets to print which may
take a few weeks to get through but everyone
should have received their tickets by the 14th April. If
you haven’t received your tickets by then please the
Peel Bay Festival team or call us on 01624 841234
CAR
PARKING Parking amnesty!! If
anybody has bought tickets for one of our concert nights
but not yet purchased their parking space, now is the
time to do so because if you purchase a parking space
(only £3 per car) before we post your concert tickets,
we will not charge you the booking fee. However, if you
decide to purchase car parking after we have posted your
concert tickets, the booking fee will be charged.
For
those who purchase parking tickets on the day of the
concert, the car park fees will increase to £5
per vehicle. The Peel Bay Festival car park has the capacity
to hold all vehicles attending the concerts. For that
reason, and to minimise traffic problems and at the insistence
of the Police, all roads and estates around the site
during the Festival will be made clearways and will be
strictly enforced by the Police. Vehicles parked illegally
may be towed away. Our car park is the closest you will
get to the Festival site!!
CAMPING Our
camping and travel service is now up and running. With
the TT celebrating its centenary this year, accommodation
and travel space is at a premium. Our campsite will open
at 9am on the 26th May until 12 noon on 11th June (last
admittance 6th June). You can stay just the night of
your concert or for the entire period. If you want to
bring your own tent, pitches start from as low as £6pppn.
From as little as £12pppn our tented village provides
quality tents and mattresses ready set up for your arrival.
Just bring your sleeping bag and towel. On site facilities
include showers, toilets, a shop and a catering marquee.
The
campsite offers 2000 spaces and is filling up quickly,
so book now to avoid disappointment. For all enquiries
and bookings for travel and accommodation please email or
phone on 01624 841222. Also, as an added bonus for campsite
customers, once your campsite space is booked you will
receive a special promotional discount of 10% off
any tickets for any concert during the festival or get
a 7 night standing ticket at the special price
of £150, saving over £75!

Night Two for Deacon Blue
The Peel Bay Festival is excited
to announce that one of Scotland’s greatest exports – Deacon
Blue will be headlining the second night of the festival
- supported by music legends Paul Carrack and Steve Gibbons.
Deacon
Blue is acknowledged to be one of the best live
acts in the UK and broke the world record for the fastest
concert sell out in 1989. They were one of the top-selling
UK bands in the late 1980s/early 1990s and in 1994 their
album reached number one shortly before the band split.
They reformed in 1999, but only to play at events that
interested them, until 2004 when Graeme Kelling died from
cancer.
It was at this time that the band played in the
Isle of Man for the first time and was a complete sell
out. Isle of Man Newspapers said at the time, "The
musical talents of the band and the energy and commitment
which made Deacon Blue famous have not diminished and were
on full show". "Deacon Blue brought a night of
energy, passion and emotion to the Villa Marina".
Their performance at The Peel Bay
Festival will include a mixture of classic hits and three
new songs, recorded last year – which will make this
a concert not to be missed.
Deacon Blue will be supported by Paul
Carrack – a
vocal legend, who has sung with groups and performed as
a solo artist since the seventies. Probably best known
as one of the lead vocalists in Mike + The Mechanics – particularly
for his lead in their number one hit "The Living Years" in
1988 – Paul has also been a member of Roxy Music
and Squeeze (replacing Jools Holland) and has worked with
the likes of The Smiths, The Eagles, B.B. King and The
Pretenders.
In 1997, Paul played the organ for Elton John
on the single "Something about the Way You Look Tonight".
Coupled with "Candle in the Wind ‘97" -
this became the best selling single of all time.
And if
that isn’t enough, the night will also be supported
by living musical TT Legend Steve
Gibbons. Having been
in the business for over four decades, Gibbons has a huge
international following and has worked and toured with
many bands including The Who, Lynard Skynard and E.L.O.
If you have pre-registered on the festival web site, you
can buy tickets from 9am on Tuesday 27th February. If you
haven’t registered yet do so or
call the booking office on 01624 841234.

Look WHO’s coming to
the Isle of Man!
Finally, the press speculation and
general town gossip can come to an end as the world famous
Rock Band – The
Who has confirmed they will be opening the Peel Bay Festival
on Wednesday, 30th May, 2007.
Street Heritage, organisers
of the festival, have been in talks with the band since
September and they can now confirm the band will include
the Isle of Man as part of their European tour being
announced in London on 8th February. Jonathan Irving,
the Promoter, said “This
is a fantastic coup for both the Peel Bay Festival and
the Isle of Man. It is many, many years since such legendary
artists have performed here on the Island and we are
thrilled we have secured them to open our Festival. This
is indeed a legendary opening for what will be a legendary
Festival”.
With the band receiving a lifetime achievement
award at the South Bank Show awards last month and with
their recent Glastonbury announcement – this is
a great scoop for the Island and means the Peel Bay Festival
is set to be the biggest and best music event the Isle
of Man has ever witnessed. With thousands coming over
for the TT and thousands of fans from the Island filling
the 10,000 capacity marquee - the atmosphere will be
truly unique. John Shakespeare, Event Manager said “the

who’ of the music industry and we still have two
further nights to announce”.

another two bands who have now confirmed that they will
be performing at this years Festival.
John Shakespeare -

this is our first year of the Peel Bay Festival, trying
to secure bands has been quite a lengthy process. We
have also tired to satisfy not only the classic TT audience
but everyone else that lives on the Island and joining
the line up of Robin Gibb, Chris Norman, Counterfeit
Stones and Bootleg Beatles we can now confirm that The
Stranglers and McFly have also been booked. McFly
and The Stranglers will be performing on different nights
and we will be announcing who they are co-headlining
with shortly.
Tickets for these bands are expected
to go on sale next week and more information as to which
nights and with which other bands they will be performing
with will be announced via the Radio and Newspapers – all
information will be available on this web site When tickets
go on sale the first day will be reserved to people that
have pre-registered on our web site. Pre registering
is free of charge. The next day will be then open to
anyone to book. Particularly for the McFly concert,
we are also giving a 20% discount for anyone under 16
